The Goldfish Embargo

 May 29, 2012

Who put a limit on how many fishes and animal crackers a two year old can have in a single cuppie? I ask my Daddy for just one more fishy. The reply for my desire "you have enough" Seven tries later "you don't need anymore, you have enough, were eating lunch in a couple hours, I can't, not that I can't, I won't. You have plenty, look at how many you have."
As usual, Daddy always seems to ask me a question that sparks my interest when I'm angry or frustrated.
"Do you like your cuppy full of fishies and animal crackers?"
He didn't exactly say cuppy. He called it a "container" I told him It wasn't a "container".
He said "it was."
"NO, its not a container!"-
"Yes it! Alyssia."
"No its not, Daddy!"
"Listen to me. Alyssia, Daddy knows everything. I, teach you everything. That. Is. A container. May I have a fishy?"
I thought about it...
Stopping me in mid thought, Daddy said "see, now you don't want to share any with me?" He was right, I didn't, but that was Daddy asking. I have to take care of my Daddy. I told him with my index finger waving between our eye contact "Wait." I opened my container, grabbed a fish, and gave him one.
"Thank you, Alyssia."
"Your welcome, Daddy." I love to see him smile. He loves those fishes, I think, just as much as I do.
